About Us

Pine Tree News was born out of a conversation between brothers Simon and Julian Clowater, who were enjoying cigars and scotch while sitting in lawn chairs outside a garage in Calgary, Alberta, Canada in the summer heat. The topic of discussion was how best to purchase a plot of land to live on with their ten closest friends.

They debated whether a communal ownership model would be more suitable or if the lots should be subdivided for individual ownership. They also discussed whether the project should be solely for profit or if it should be self-sustaining. Ultimately, they concluded that a combination of both approaches would be best. This would allow for a neutral, objective center that could leverage the strengths of different ideologies, including conservatism, libertarianism, and liberalism.

With the goal of finding the best of all worlds, Pine Tree News was launched as a Facebook page and later a website and podcast. It aims to examine both large and small people and systems, offering both criticism and credit where appropriate. It seeks to provide a global perspective with a local touch, covering important events and issues from Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada and around the world.
